The Last of Us

The Last of Us. A game developed by Naughty dog and exclusively published for PlayStation. This game revolves around a very strong story. It is an action adventure game that contains a certain percentage of horror genres.

In this game, the player gets to play as the main character known as Joel. Joel is a single father who loses is 12 years old daughter who got shot while attempting to escape from sudden outbreak of zombies.

After many years, Joel works with Tess in a quarantine zone. Their arms dealer has traded their weaponries to rebel group known as Fireflies. Tess and Joel meet one of the rebels and she promises them double the trade if they deliver a teenage girl to the allocated destination. Joel and Tess agree upon seeing their traded goods as evidences.

From here onwards, player’s duty is to protect Ellie, the girl they have to deliver and tries to bring her safely across to her destination. The player has to uses the skills learnt to avoid obstacles like zombies, the military and others.

There are four types of zombies. They are stalkers, clickers, runners and bloaters. To me, I personally feel that the clickers are the worst types of zombies ever. I can endure all types of zombies except clickers. They literally annoy me the most.

To be honest, I am still going through the game and not anywhere near the end. However, I have gone through sufficient progression to understand the game mechanics. The game mechanics are pretty straight forward once you get used to it.

However, if you do not play the game consistently, you might need to refer to the control page again. There are quite a lot of controls you have to remember in order to survive in the game. This game requires skills to go pass smoothly.

If you do not have quick reflexes, this game might be a little challenging for you. My reflexes are not that good; therefore, I die a little bit more frequently than expected. However, I still play it for the plot.

The plot is really good. Yes, it is a typical zombie apocalypse situation. However, the types of zombies and how the story goes so smoothly with the gameplay mixes in well. They do not over go into details of the story.

They go on surface, but also ensure that we know sufficient information to understand the story. Honestly, I am only playing for the game for the graphics and also the underlying story that is known for.

The game mechanics are good too but it doesn’t suit my style. I also like the game for its level design. The levels are well detailed on how the world would like in zombie apocalypse.  I have few zombie world games like Left for Dead 1 and 2. Compared to that, The Last of Us seems more realistic with their level design.

The level design also have sufficient clues for the players to pick up and go with it. Also if the player is stuck, player could press L3 (The joystick) to get a hint.

To be honest, I can’t wait to finish the game so that I will know the full story and also on other parts of the level. To me, I am glad that I owe a copy of the game. It’s currently the outstanding game in my PS3 game library.

Online Game

I was thinking of what to review about this week and then an idea came about. I started playing online games first before moving on to other types of games. Then another idea pop out. Why not club penguin?

I used to play club penguin since 2006. I was playing some games on Miniclips.com and I noticed that club penguin was in Miniclips top 10 game list. I decided to check it out and it was all about penguins (I was obsessed with penguins). I created an account.

There are two types of account. One is for normal users. You get to access everything but buy limited items. The second time account is membership account. You get to access everything and also able to purchase a variety of items. Knowing myself, I took the normal account.

Once you have created account you can choose the server you desire to go. There are two types of server. One with the pop chat button means that you chat box is disabled and you are only allowed to use in built sentences (a.k.a Ultimate Safe chat) to talk to other penguins. Those without are the one has chat box enabled and also have in built sentences to use to communicate.

Types of server

Once you choose a server, you get to access the world. Bascially the world is just  a big penguin town with many places to visit. There are four main tabs. They are places, games shops and pets. Places shows generally the places you could visit. Game tab specifically highlights places the penguins can play a game. Pets section shows places the penguins to go with their pets. Yes penguins have pets too.
Currently in Shops tab.

My character

If you click on your own character, you get to see a profile card that indicates your name, a star (normal user.), coins and stamps. Also if you click on an tab at the right side of the pop up, you will get to see accessories for penguins you purchased or got for free.

Once you enter the server.
There are few icons in this page.  News paper Icon is for newspaper, Mail Icon is to check your mails sent by other penguins, "M" badge is a moderate badge where you could send  complain about other players.  The phone icon is actually my secret agent icon (Shhh it's a secret.) Map is to show the game layout of the whole game. The chat bar has few icons which I am not going to cover. (Snowball meant for throwing snowball)
I am a secret agent. Shhh

Newspaper of Club penguin
Welcome to my crib! It's pathetic but these are the only free items.
I have two pets. It is blue and red in colour (That's the only two that are available for normal users) These pets are known as puffles. There are few types of coloured puffles. Each coloured puffle has it's own personality.

I think I have covered the basics of the game. Even though, this game is meant for children, it's actually quite complex and interesting. It's not like habbo hotel. It's different. Every year they have a variety of events and parties. Beside festivals like Christmas, they have events like the avengers battle, star wars and few other events.

On top of that, you get to play activities with your pets, or other penguins. You also get to earn coins to buy food for pets or other items in the world. You also get to be a tour guide or a secret agent (or both). I had to go through test in order to be a secret agent and a tour guide. I also tried to be a Card jitsu master (Currently holding onto black belt) but failed to get pass the Card Jitsu Sensei.

If you feel emo and don't want to chat with anyone, you could just go around every place and not get bored. Almost every area you visit has some activities or some form of interactive items. I think this is pretty impressive.

I have played few Massive online multi-player games and I feel Club penguin is quite neat. It has all the activities that is needed. The games might not be very unique as it is a common game (Sled racing, Fishing, surfing) but it's really entertaining.

I won't really recommend this game for hard core gamers or gamers who does not like children games. I would recommend to selective causal gamers and those who don't mind playing any form of games.
